John was born in Louisville, OH to Herbert and Betty Leighty on January 19, 1956. He went to school at Louisville High School. He married Peg Doty on April 27, 2012, in Franklin, IN. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and served in the Air Force. John lived a rich and full life and enjoyed camping, playing pool and fishing. He was an avid Cubs fan and lifelong member of American Legion, most recently at the American Legion in Fishers, Post 470.
John is preceded in death by his parents Herbert and Betty Leighty.
John is survived by his wife, Peg, sister, Karen, brother, Wayne, sister-in-law, Janny, brother-in-law, Kent (Christy), and stepchildren, John (Stephanie) and Tyler (Brittany), five grandchildren and multiple nieces and nephews.
