

87, passed away on May 5, 2011. Born March 27, 1924, to George and Sarah Sheehan, Joe was a native of Indianapolis raised on the eastside. After proudly serving his country in the Army during WW II, his college years were spent at St. Meinrad Seminary and Butler University. He was a graduate of the Executive Development Program at the Indiana University School of Business and also a graduate of the School of Banking at the University of Wisconsin. In 1948, he began a career with American Fletcher National Bank (Bank One) working in various capacities including Commercial Loan Officer. In 1978, he joined First Bank and Trust Company (now First of American Bank) as a Vice President and Commercial Loan Officer, then transferred to the Business Development Department from which he retired in 1989.
Joe was very involved in all activities at his parish, St. Pius X Catholic Church, was a founder of the Castleton Rotary and an avid volunteer for the Society of St. Vincent de Paul.
Joe is survived by his wife of 59 years, Josephine, children David, John (Ann) Sheehan, Kathy (Joe) Downs, Patty (Tom) O’Connor, Maureen (Brian) Hughes, 12 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Dan and 3 brothers.
Visitation will be Sunday, May 8 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm and again on Monday, May 9 from 9:00 am to 10:00 am at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 7200 Sarto Drive. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, May 9 at 10:00 am at St. Pius X. Interment will follow Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.
