

Katherine Bernard was born to the late Christopher and Lucille Wright Burrell on October 11, 1938 in Covington, Tennessee. She received her elementary education from Tabernacle and graduated from Frazier High School.
At an early age, Katherine, accepted Christ and attended St. Luke Baptist Church, in Covington, Tennessee in 1959. Katherine relocated to Indianapolis, Indiana. On August 18th of that same year she was joined in holy matrimony to Thomas L. Bernard. The Lord blessed this union with two beautiful children.
Katherine joined Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in 1961 where she held numerous positions, including Church Treasurer. After years of dedicated service, the church’s financial center was named in her honor.
Katherine retired from Fort Benjamin Harrison Financial Center after 20 plus years of service. After retirement, Katherine enjoyed shopping, playing cards especially Bid whist and spending time with her family and grandchildren.
She was an avid football fan, with the Colts being her favorite team.
Katherine was voted most favorite lap at her church with many children and babies using her lap for some good sleep.
In remembrance, Katherine Bernard departed this earthly life on Saturday, January 10, 2015 at the age of 76 years old.
Katherine was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, one brother and her husband Thomas.
Katherine leaves to cherish her memory to her daughter Kimberly Sterling and her son Gregory Bernard (Tawonna); three wonderful grandchildren, Kourtney Sterling and Tyreese and Savion Bernard; two sisters, Lillie M. Dyson and Mary A. Morris; two brothers, Walter and Thomas Burrell and a host of nieces, nephews, church family and friends.
