Kathryn Welch Hill Monbouquette

Of Indianapolis, Indiana and Naples, Florida passed away on December 12, 2015. She was born In Niagara Falls, New York on November 5, 1920 to Arthur and Ellen (Canavan) Welch. A life long Roman Catholic she enjoyed and participated frequently in the sacraments and was particularly devoted to saying the Holy Rosary which she completed almost everyday. She was a daily communicant and Eucharistic Minister.

A member of the first class of Education Majors at the State University of New York at Brockport she was teaching in the Niagara Falls school system when she met Ralph M. Hill. They were married on July 1, 1950. During their thirty five (35) year marriage they were blessed with four (4) children Marty, Mike, Jim and Mary Ellen.

In March of 1985 after a lengthy illness her beloved husband Ralph died. Sometime later she joined the many Indianapolis Snowbirds who fled the wintry days in Indianapolis and began to spend the winter months in Naples, Florida. One day after Mass in Naples the Mass celebrant introduced her to a widower from Boston named Bernard Monbouquette whom she married in 1988.

Her days with “Bernie” were filled with golf, bridge, dancing and just having fun. In addition to a twinkling smile and “killer” golf game Bernie brought four children and six grandchildren to their joyous union. Their lives together lasted almost ten exciting years and ended at Bernie death in April of 1998.

Kathryn was a member of the St. Peter and Paul Parish of Naples, Florida, the Lakewood Country Club, Naples Florida, St. Matthew’s Catholic Church of Indianapolis, Indiana, the Indianapolis Proctor Club, the Children’s Bureau of Indianapolis, and the Brendonwood Women’s Golf and Women’s Garden Clubs of Indianapolis Indiana.

Kathryn was predeceased by her husbands Ralph M. Hill and Bernard Monbouquette, her parents Arthur and Ellen Welch, her brothers the Rev. Cornelius Welch OFM, John James Welch and William Welch.

She is survived by the children of her union with her husband Ralph namely Mary Ellen Hill of Oakland, Ca., James A. Hill, Michael W. Hill (Sheila Purtill) and his son, her much loved grandson, Patrick Hill and R. Martin Hill all of Indianapolis, Ind. and her step children Paul Monbouquette (Sonja Holland) of Osprey, Florida, Peter Monbouquette (Bette Lynch) of Andover, MA, Bernard Monbouquette (Wendy) of Omaha, NE; and Brian Monbouquette (Deborah) of Richmond, VA.. and her step grandchildren Melissa Monbouquette, Matthew Monbouquette, Andrea Monbouquette, Jerry Monbouquette, Andrew Monbouquette and Marc Monbouquette who knew her as “Nana Kate”.

Visitation beginning at 9:00 am will precede the Mass of Christian Burial scheduled for 11:00 am that will be held at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 5692 Central Avenue, Indianapolis, Indiana on December 18, 2015. Burial will be at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery, located in Niagara Falls New York. Funeral Arrangements are being managed by the Feeney-Hornak Mortuary.

Contributions in lieu of flowers can be made to the Indianapolis Children’s Bureau or the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic School in Kathryn’s name.
