Ken was born on December 17, 1938, in Indianapolis to Elmer and Helen Schmid. He grew up in Indianapolis and graduated from Shortridge High School. From an early age he worked alongside his parents and uncle, Edward, at Schmid Brother's Market. This is where he saw the family's faith and service to all people exhibited every day. He later attended Ball State University where he met the love of his life and eventually wife of 64 years June (Hall) Schmid. While at Ball State, Ken was a founder of Sigma Delta fraternity which eventually became the Sigma Chi chapter at Ball State. He was very proud to become an active brother in Sigma Chi.
Ken had a long successful professional career with National Homes Corporation in Lafayette, IN and later I.U.P.U.I. as he returned to Indianapolis. He ultimately leveraged his love for people and passion for marketing into creating his own business, Graphic Imaging. His customers and colleagues ultimately became his lifelong friends.
Throughout his life, Ken's faith in Christ was a guiding force and source of strength. He taught bible study to all ages from elementary to young married couples to "seasoned" prayer warriors. His primary motivation was always serving those around him. Even in his final hours, he graciously inquired about the wellbeing of others and shared his thoughtful, humble sense of humor. Despite the physical challenges he faced in later years, he was at peace knowing the certainty of eternal life that awaited him from accepting the Lord as his savior.
Ken was a dedicated husband, loving father, grandfather and role model for the entire Schmid family. He is preceded in death by his parents and uncle. He is survived by his wife June, daughter Cindy Wagner (husband Tim), son Ken Jr. (wife Cathy Driscoll Schmid), grandson Ashton Wagner (wife Susan), grandson Cameron Schmid (wife Jamie, great grandson Grayson, great granddaughter Charlie Marie), granddaughter Madison Schmid, grandson Matthew Wagner (wife Delaine), Sisters Sharon Brant, Carol Sue Koonce (husband Donn), Betty Cooney, brother-in-law Don Hall (wife Diane) and many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Riley Children's Hospital - a reflection of Ken's lifelong commitment to helping others.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to their entire family, church family, friends, and the dedicated medical staff and caregivers who provided support and comfort.
