He graduated from Wendell L. Wilkie High School in '72. Kevin went on to obtain an Associate's degree from Purdue in Electrical Engineering Technology. He was a true jack of all trades, culminating in a career as a journeyman electrician and as a repairman for carwashes throughout the state. Kevin’s work ethic was one of a kind, holding countless demanding jobs in a variety of fields. He only had one goal, to provide for his family through good times and bad. A goal he accomplished for an eternally grateful and appreciative family.
Kevin loved music, and other than his family, it was his life. He expertly and passionately played the pedal steel guitar, keyboard, bass guitar, double bass, and dobro for many country, western, gospel, and bluegrass groups throughout his life. His family fondly remembers being serenaded by his constant practice at home and proudly attending his gigs and shows at lodges, campsites, and festivals across Indiana. His music lives on through recordings of his performances and his instruments remain as keepsakes of all the happy times.
He was an avid outdoorsman and an accomplished craftsman. Entwining these two skills together, of course, yielded Kevin to build two Teardrop campers for himself. He and his wife were avid members of the Indiana Teardrop Camper “Tear Jerkers” campsite scene where Kevin & his dog Maddy would stroll around to meet new people and strike up a spontaneous jam session if he came across any other musicians. He forged wonderful friendships and made lasting happy memories with all of his fellow Tear Jerkers.
Kevin’s work ethic, passions, and dedication to his family will be sorely missed.
Kevin is survived by his wife, Mary Chriss; his daughter Lisa Arbuckle (Shawn); his sons Scott Chriss and David Chriss; his parents, Jack and Shirley Chriss; his brother Craig Chriss (Ginger); his granddaughter Abby Arbuckle; and his beloved dog Maddy Mae.
A visitation for Kevin will be held Monday, June 27, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at St Pius X Catholic Church, 7200 Sarto Drive, Indianapolis, Indiana 46240, followed by a funeral service at 12:00 PM. in the church.
