

Leonard Russell Smith, 79, of Indianapolis, passed away on September 18, 2020. Leonard was born June 22, 1941 in Ewing Kentucky the son of Edwin Howes Smith and Ada Elizabeth Smith. He retired from Nice Pak in Mooresville Indiana where he was a machinist and line operator. Leonard enjoyed fishing, watching NASCAR, and planting and growing tomatoes. He was also quite a handyman, could pretty much fix anything that he put his heart and mind to. Leonard enjoyed The Young & Restless soap opera as a guilty pleasure. He also liked to work on cars for family and friends to help them out. Leonard loved his dogs and was Daddy to several throughout the years. He provided outside bird houses and feeders for all the birds because he enjoyed watching them fly into the yard to feed. He was a friend to many and loved by all.
Leonard is survived by his wife, OraLee Smith - children; Candy (Ricky) Smith, David (Tammy Mischler) Smith, Annette (Phillip Cooley) Wilson, Alicia (Greg) Watts, Billy Statzer - sisters: Belle Cord, Linda Turkette - brother; Stephen Smith – grandchildren; Dustin (Brittany) Wilson, Amber Smith, Heather (John) Bennett, Michael Smith, Tonya (Wade) Merritt, Cassandra (Devin) Smith, Brianna (Kyle Scott) McCauley, Viola Burchfield, Daniel Statzer, Anthony Statzer, Jackie Statzer, Craig (Stephanie) Tussey, Kristen (Eddie) Brown – several great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, son Michael Smith, son Fairley Statzer, son-in-law, Garrett Wilson, sisters Pamela Smith, Ruth Smith and Velva Jones, brothers Jimmy Smith and William Keith, granddaughter Amanda Annette Wilson, and grandson Jacob Leonard Smith.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m., Monday, September 21, 2020 at Family Funeral Care, 5791 Rockville Road, Indianapolis, Indiana. Burial will be in Floral Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the service time at 2:00 p.m. at Family Funeral Care.
