Luz Tolentino Cruz

October 19, 1928 – November 5, 2021

Luz Tolentino Cruz passed away on November 5, 2021 at the age of 93. Luz was born to Indalecio and Gregoria Tolentino on October 19, 1928 in Palawan, Philippines. Luz was the proud mother of three children and their families. Bessie and husband Mark from Colorado, Joel Jr. and his wife Sylvia in Indianapolis, Debbie and husband Todd in Carmel.

To her eight grandchildren, she was a loving “Lola”; Sharon (Ryan) – Indianapolis, IN, Mark – Aurora, CO, Timothy (Blair) – Rockville, IN, Joseph (Vicki) – Whitestown, IN, Kelsey – San Francisco, CA, Ryan – Aurora, CO, Sarah – Chicago, IL, Michael – Carmel, IN, She was ”Lola Lola” to Samuel (son of Joseph and Vicki) and great Lola to Walker (son of Tim and Blair).

Luz received her Bachelors in Library Science from FEU (Far East University) in Manila and worked as a Librarian at the International School in Manila and as a Reference Librarian for the State of Indiana until her retirement in 1995. A member of Southport Presbyterian Church since 1979, she was a long-time member of the choir, singing Alto.

Luz’s family enjoyed the Filipino dishes she perfected as her own. We all miss the scent of her kitchen, knowing delicious things were to come. She knew the birthdays and wedding anniversaries of every family member and made sure she was the first one to send her greeting (regardless of timezone!).

A beautiful, kind soul, she will be missed by family and many friends across the US and the Philippines.

Visitation will be Friday, November 12 from 11am to 1pm at Southport Presbyterian Church. Funeral services will follow at 1pm. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery immediately after the funeral service.
