Marshall Edward Cunningham, 94, of Indianapolis, formerly of Vernon, Indiana, passed away Monday, October 22, 2018. He was born December 22, 1923 in Tampico, Indiana to the late John and Bertha (Eggen) Cunningham. He is also preceded in death by his wife, Orpha “Annie” (Hartwell) Cunningham and brothers, John, George, Jim, and Frederick Cunningham. He worked for many years at Cummins as well as for the city and county. Marshall was recognized as citizen of the month in 1978 for rescuing a lady during the blizzard and was a big race fan. He attended many Indy 500’s and was a fan of Tony Stewart. In the 40’s he rode the train as a hobo despite his mother’s, who he always considered his best friend, objections. He also enjoyed the annual 4th of July party and talent show where he would sing and play his fiddle.
Marshall is survived by his children, Judy Nowland, Rosemary Howard, Mark Cunningham, and Catherine Cunningham; 14 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; and many extended family members and friends.
Visitation will be 4 pm to 8 pm Thursday, October 25, 2018 at Family Funeral Care, 5791 Rockville Rd., Indianapolis, IN 46224. His Funeral Service will be 10 am Friday, October 26, 2018 at the funeral home with burial to follow at Westridge Cemetery in Indianapolis.
