Martha was born in Fort Wayne, IN to Catherine and Carl Brink on Friday, February 16, 1951. She graduated Bishop Dwenger High School in 1969. She earned credentials in X-Ray Technology and Medical Coding at Indiana University’s Indianapolis campus, and worked in Healthcare her entire adult life, at Lutheran Hospital and Baltes Cardiology (both: Fort Wayne), and IU Health (Indianapolis). She loved – and was loved by – all of her coworkers through the years.
Martha was active in CRHP at St. Charles Borromeo Church (Fort Wayne), and in the Pink Ribbon Foundation (Indianapolis), rarely missing an opportunity to volunteer at the latter’s annual fashion show.
Martha enjoyed needlepoint, knitting, quilting and reupholstering. She adored anything chocolate, Starbucks, the Peanuts (especially Charlie Brown), and shopping with her nieces at the Vera Bradley outlet store. But her three biggest joys were family, travel, and watching sports. In summer 1996, those three joys came together when, after months of scrimping and saving, she and her daughter Emily traveled to Atlanta and enjoyed the Olympic games together. For both, it was the experience of a lifetime.
Martha was preceded in death by her parents Catherine and Carl, brothers Carl and Jim Brink, and sisters Mary Kay (Joe) Snyder and Barbra (Steve) Bangert. She is survived by her only child, daughter Emily Hernandez (Indianapolis) and grandson Jaden Smith (Fishers), as well as by her sisters Carol Eifert (Bob) of Fort Wayne, Margie Peterson (Mike) of Elkhart, and multiple generations of nieces and nephews.
Whether at work, home or out in the community, Martha Hernandez always brought kindness and understanding to every person she met.
A visitation will be held for Martha from noon to 3pm – with a memorial service at 2pm – at Feeney-Hornak Keystone Mortuary (2126 East 71st Street, Indianapolis, IN 46220) on Sunday, August 25th.
Rite of Committal services to be held 9/28/24 12pm at Catholic Cemetery of Fort Wayne. 3500 Lake Ave Fort Wayne IN 46805.
