Obituary of Martha L. Williams
Obituary for Martha L. Williams Martha Williams was born, Sunday, March 8, 1936 to the late Robert Lee Hughey and Mary Lee Hughey-Whitfield, in Elkmont Alabama. Martha attended Trinity High School in Athens, Alabama. Martha professed hope in Christ at an early age and joined St Joseph Spiritual Church under the leadership of Rev. Mack Noel. Later she joined Mount Vernon Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of Rev. Mozel Sanders, from there she united with Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership on Rev. William Jeter Senior. She later moved her membership to Greater King Solomon Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of her husband Rev. Dr. Robert O. “Sonny” William, where she was First Lady, serving on the Mothers Board and President of Junior Ushers. She organized the Nurses Guild. She also enjoyed coordinating church family and friend’s bus trips. Martha worked 42 years at RCA where she held many positions and retired as an Inspector. In 1973 Martha L. Hughey married Dr. Robert O. “Sonny” Williams, and in their blended family there were a total of 10 children. Preceded her in death, one son Lewellye Williams and one daughter Amelda Williams. On April 8, 2024, “Just as the Moon Covered the Sun during the Totality” Martha L. Williams transition to the ”SON”, Monday, April 8th 2024 at 3:08 P.M., at the age of 88 years and one month. She leaves to cherish her memories Sons; Garry Jackson (Cynitha), Secretary Robert Jackson, Roderick Booker (Carolyn), Daughter; Stephanie Hambrick, Vickie Bradley, Althea Ragsdale, Sherrie Bray (John), Terri Dorsey, 60 Grand Children, 55 Great Grand Children and a Host of Great-Great Grand Children and other special relatives and friends; Loyal Home Health Aides, who became her daughters; God Children, Elder Vincent Schillcutt, Elder Jones & Mary Frances Jones, Richard Gilmore, Reggie Johnson and Debra Owens and Khymarr Johnson. A public visitation will take place, Saturday, April 20, 2024 beginning at 10:00 AM until the hour of service at 11:00AM, at Greater Shepherd Baptist Church. All services will be held in the sanctuary of Greater Shepherd Baptist Church 2200 English Ave. Indianapolis, IN 46201. The burial will follow immediately after the Celebration of Life Service in New Crown Cemetery 2101 Churchman Ave. Indianapolis, IN 46203.
