

Mary Helen Dunn, 98, passed away on January 29, 2017. She was born in Indianapolis on January 27, 1919, to John and Elizabeth Daugherty. She was a graduate of both Crispus Attucks High School and Indiana University. She served as an interviewer at the Indiana Employment Security Division for 17 years and later as an adjudicator for the Indiana Rehabilitation Service until her retirement.
Her life was one of service. She taught as a Sunday School teacher at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, where she was a member for 87 years and a part of the Levites Club. Also a firm believer in the political process, she worked on numerous elections. In order to create opportunities for young people, she actively raised scholarship funds for college students in need through various service organizations, including Crispus Attucks Alumni. She was a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, VIP Bridge Club, La Finneseurs Bridge Club, and the Clowes Hall Women’s Committee.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Alyce Phillips, and her ex-husband, Alonzo Dunn. Left to cherish her memory are her son, William Dunn, her daughter in-law, Carol Dunn, and her grandchildren, Brian and Lindsay Dunn, as well as a host of family and friends.
