Mary E. Jakes

Mary worked at Bromberg's Jeweler in Birmingham Alabama in the late 1950's to early 60's.Mary relocated to Indianapolis, Indiana in 1966 and started a career at Anthony Hall Nursing home. She changed careers and began working The Indiana Convention Center in the early 1970's until retirement. Mary's church home was Eastern Star Church where she worshipped.

Mary loved to cook, shopping, going to church and spending time with family and friends. Mary was the mother or grandmother to everyone because of the love and directness that was immediately felt when meeting her. Mary was full of spunk and always had words of wisdom for everyone she talked to.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Judge and Cherry Townsend ; her brother Algie Townsend; her son Robert Lee Townsend and her aunt Dorothy Jimison.

Mary leaves a family that will miss her dearly: her sons Ronald Townsend (Sharon), Herbert Townsend (Betty) & Michael Jakes, a daughter, Wanda Harris (James), brother James Townsend (Erma), sister in law Yvonne Townsend, 17 grand children , 40 great- grand children, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and close family members.
