Mary is survived by her three children, Kathy (Rick) Black, Sherry (Ron) Moody and Mike (Michelle) Murray; Seven Grandchildren: Shannon (Drew), David (Kiley), Angela (Derek), Andrew, Emily (Dustin), Kaitlyn and Colin; Six Great Grandchildren: Dylan, Tyler, Holden, Isaac, Lula and Roxie. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Gwendolyn Champ and Jesse Roe, and two sisters, Alta Young and Juanita Graham.
On September 12, 1948, Mary married the love of her life, Wally Murray. They were married for 72 years before Wally preceded her in death on December 16, 2020. She met Wally while working at “The Hatch” restaurant in “The Valley” located on Oliver Avenue on the westside of Indianapolis, Indiana. They both graduated from George Washington High School.
Mary and Wally were involved in their church at West Morris Free Methodist Church for several years and enjoyed activities in the SCAMPS… Senior Christians are Marvelous People. Mary was in charge of the welcome center for several years; she was involved in her Senior Sunday School Class and organized many family dinners at the church.
In her lifetime, Mary enjoyed being an amateur artist and loved sewing, especially sewing dance costumes for her two girls for their dance recitals. She loved being a stay-at-home mom, took pride in her home while raising her two girls and her son. Family gatherings and cooking for the family were very special to Mary specifically on Christmas Eve. She held various roles in the community…working for the A&P grocery chain and as a teacher’s aide in Wayne Township; however, Mary always said that her greatest accomplishment in life was her family.
Our family is at peace knowing that Wally and Mary are together again “ALWAYS.”
