Matthew Alan Truss, age 35, of Bronx, New York passed away on Tuesday December 31, 2019. Matthew was born July 13, 1984.
A beloved son, friend and mentor, Matthew blessed each person who knew him in his time on earth. Matthew had a charismatic personality and an infectious laugh that could be heard for miles. His unwavering honesty and loving spirit were truly a gift. Matthew had a unique ability to seize each opportunity and moment that came his way, ensuring he lived his life to its highest potential.
Even as a child, he participated in several musical activities. His elementary School music teacher Ms. Mack, and then eventually Mrs. Grinchesky, recommended him to sing with the Indianapolis children's choir. Not only did he participate in the Indianapolis children's choir, he sang and used his vocal gift at church, as a member of the Joybelles. By the time he was a teenager he was singing Ave Maria at weddings.
After graduating from Broad Ripple High School in 2002, Matthew attended the Boston Conservatory of Music. There he studied vocal music with an emphasis in opera performance. After graduating in 2006, he secured a position at the Berklee College of Music, where he loved the faculty and students. He then moved to New York where he worked for the National Corale as a Teaching Artist Corale at the Professional Performing Arts School.
Matthew was a world traveler! He performed internationally as a highly respected and talented countertenor. Matthew worked with The American Spiritual Ensemble, Abyssinian Baptist Church and the Metropolitan Opera Guild.
Funeral Service for Matthew will be held, 12:00 pm, Tuesday, January 14, 2020, at Olivet Missionary Baptist Church, 4141 North Highschool Road, Indianapolis, Indiana, with visitation from 10:00 am until time of service at 12:00 pm, all taken place at the Church.
Disposition will be private.
He is survived not only by his mother, DebraClark, and his brother, Isaiah Clark, he was loved and supported by many friends, mentors, and family members. From his godmother, to his big brother, his high school and college friends, his music family, and students his legacy will forever live on.
