

Melba Louise Hunter, age 76, of Indianapolis passed away peacefully in her home on June 26, with her loving family by her side. She was born in Hollis Chapel, TN to the late William & Hattie Stout. She is preceded in death by her husband Richard T. (Tom) Hunter, Sister Mary Walker and Brother Herschel Stout. Melba retired with her husband Tom Hunter in 1995 from Tom Hunter, Inc. a long-time, local heating and cooling contractor.
She is survived by her son Richard (Rick) T. Hunter II (Michele), son David Hunter (Debbie), daughter Greta Barber (Scott) and son Barry Hunter all of Indianapolis. She is also survived by her sister Nell Cook of Portland, TN and brother Roger Stout of Bella Vista, AR. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Nathan, Blake and Zach Barber, Sam Hunter (Brittany), Nicole Beattie (Brian), Haley and Darcy Hunter and her three great grandchildren Kayla Durham, Cooper and Harper Beattie who will all greatly miss her sweet smile, soft touch, kind and reassuring voice and that wicked Hunter sense of humor.
Melba Hunter, along with her husband Tom and many other concerned citizens, worked tirelessly in their efforts to improve the lives of the people in Franklin Township. They were instrumental in the organization of the Franklin Township Civic League, Informer Newspaper and the development and dedication of Indy Parks Southeastway Park facility.
She continued her spirit of volunteerism and community service as she worked diligently in support of her husband as he served as the founding President of the Franklin Township Youth Football League, the founding of the Franklin Township Lions Club and served as a member of the Franklin Township School Building Corporation for the 1974 building of the new Franklin Central High School facility.
Visitation will be Sunday, June 29th from 4:00pm to 8:00pm and Monday, June 30th from 10AM until the time of service at 11:00AM at Little & Sons Stop 11 Chapel. Minister Charlie Coon with the Indian Creek Christian Church will be conducting the service. Interment in Orchard Hill Cemetery in Wanamaker. Littleandsonsfuneralhome.com
