

Merlene Gee is known by family and friends as "Mrs. B". , after her loving husband Bobby Gee, and as "Peaches" resulting from her jewel of a peach appearance at birth. Merlene was Born to Lillie Williams Broyles and Errol "Buck" Broyles on May 15, 1931, in Indianapolis, Indiana.
She was a graduate of Crispus Attucks High School, Indianapolis and attended Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana studying Library Sciences. She resided on campus in Lincoln House. Merlene was an Indiana University Foundation donor and provided a scholarship to students in the School of Engineering and Technology at IUPUI.
In 1952 Merlene was united in marriage with Robert "Bobby" Gee. Together they enjoyed 58 years of marital happiness and many shared experiences while raising six children. One Child, Stephen Scott, passed in 1995.
Merlene was a pledged member of Eta Phi Beta Sorority, under the Alpha Xi Chapter. Their motto is "Not For Ourselves, But for Others", something Merlene followed and demonstrated with family and friends. Merlene was employed as an accounting representative at the U.S. Army Finance & Accounting Center where she retired. Merlene received the Commander's Award for Civilian Service Medal. This honor is given to employees of the U.S. Army that have established a pattern of excellence, and Accounting achievement and the receipt of performance awards. This award was the culmination of 35 years of service at the US Army Finance and Accounting Center well known as Fort Benjamin Harrison Finance Center. Merlene was an active member of Heritage Place of Indianapolis- Older Adult Services.
Merlene received Christ in her youth. She attended St. Bridget's Catholic Church at a young age and was a member of Ravenbrook Widow Missionary Baptist Church for many years during her adult life. Merlene departed this life on Monday September 9, 2024 at the life fulfilling age of 93. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, and son, Stephen. She is survived by her children, Gwendolyn McCay (Roger), Francietta Gartin, R. Michael Gee, Patrick Gee and Thomas Gee, 13 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives. Merlene's other children under her motherly wings: Crystal Andrews, Judy Coleman, Clarice Blake, Denise Harvey, Allen Burke Jr., and Nelly Gee.
