Michael Edward Hicks, 71, was born to Mary Hicks Creech and Edward Hicks at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana on October 7, 1946. He graduated from Ivy Tech with an Associates degree in electronics. The love of his life was Katherine Creech. As kids he was her paper boy and she always had a crush on him. They were reintroduced as adults and fell in love. They married and on February 7, 1973 Michele Hicks Wilson was born. After many years of trying they were blessed again when Amanda Hicks Ganote was born August 27, 1980.
Michael was a proud member of the U.S. Navy where he served as a gunners mate. He was stationed in Charleston, South Carolina on the USS Joseph Hewes until 1983 when he was medically discharged due to a new diagnosis of type one diabetes.
After leaving the Navy, Michael moved his family to Ledyard, Connecticut. It was here he worked as a security guard for Millstone, a nuclear power plant. Michael was a family man and as oldest of seven kids he felt the pull to be near his family. He moved back to Indianapolis in 1988 where he lived until his death on September 27, 2018. He held many positions, but his favorite was as a repair technician for Quickie motorized wheelchairs. He retired from working in 2006.
Being the father of two girls, one can only imagine the joy he felt when Alexander Wilson was born one day after his birthday on October 8, 2003 and again when his second grandson Clarence Clagg was born September 15, 2008. Papa and Nana loved their grandsons very much. Sadly, he lost his soulmate Kat in 2009. After the loss of his wife, he moved in with Amanda and had the immeasurable joy of watching his grandson grow. This was only made better by the addition of Bobby in 2014 and Papaw's pride and joy the twins, Aria and Addilae Ganote. He loved living with his beloved family and they loved him. His loss is felt strongly in every aspect. He was a member of the DAV and attended Ben Davis Church. Michael is survived by his loving and heartbroken family, including daughters Michelle (Kenny) and Amanda (Robert) and his beloved grandchildren: Alex, Clarence, Bobby , Ari and Addi, also his siblings Elaine McQueen, Tom Hicks, BIll Hicks, and Cathy Hicks. He was preceded in death by the love of his life Katherine and his siblings Danny and Tim Hicks, and his parents.
Visitation will be held from 10 to 12 PM on Wednesday, October 3 2018 at Crown Hill Funeral Home. The service will be at 12 and burial at Lincoln Garden in Whitestown to follow
