Mrs. Mollie M. Gray

Mollie Marie Adams Gray, daughter of the late John Quincy Adams and the late Florence C. Harris, departed this life on Thursday, March 18, 2010 at the age of seventy-nine years, seven months and twenty-one days, surrounded by family.

Mollie was born July 25, 1930 in Chicago, Illinois and at a young age moved to Crofton, KY. She accepted Christ and was baptized at an early age. She was a member of Hills Chapel CME Church, where her mother was a pastor. In Crofton, she met Clarence Gray, Jr. and they were united in holy matrimony on April 22, 1945; to this union fifteen children were born.

In 1955, the family moved to Indianapolis, IN and she joined Trinity CME Church and later Murchison Temple CME Church, where she served on the stewardesses and trustee boards, as well as sang in the choir. She was a faithful believer in Jesus Christ until her passing.

She was known as the neighborhood Mom and enjoyed cooking for everyone. She would often host many family dinners and when she would be asked about where she learned how to cook so well; she'd put her hand on her hip and simply say "self taught!" She loved spending time with her family and even though she wasn't able to get out and get around in the last year; she knew everything that was going on with her family. She was a very loving person and invited everyone into her home. She took-in and took care of many and no one was a stranger. She also enjoyed singing gospel music, watching the WORD network and, of course, cooking shows. She will be greatly missed.

Preceding her in death were; her parents, her spouse of over 50 years, Clarence, Jr., her daughter Cheryl, and grandson Glenn T. Gray.

She leaves to cherish many memories; nine daughters; Delmarie, Teressa, Pamela, Arlene (John), Lorna (Reggie), Regina, Gayle, Tracey and Bridgette; five sons; Dwight (Willie Mae), Chester, Terrance (Frankie), Jason, and Russell. 54 grandchildren, 72 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. And a host of other relatives, friends, and special friend, Rev. Murriel Jones.
