
Mrs. Settle was born Betty Ann Newby on August 2, 1921, the daughter of Loren and Hazel Bundy Newby in Washington County, IN. The Newby family moved to Ridge Farm, IL where she grew up and was a 1938 graduate of Ridge Farm High School.
Upon graduation, Mrs. Settle moved to Indianapolis where she worked as a personal assistant and secretary. In 1943, she married Russel E. Settle with whom she had a loving forty-three year marriage. Mr. Settle died in 1986.
In 1948, Mrs. Settle moved to Carmel. She joined the congregation of the Carmel Methodist Church and remained a faithful member for more than six decades. Mrs. Settle was a founding member of the Carmel Garden Club, reflecting her life-long love of flowers and gardening. She also loved to travel and spent decades traveling with her husband and children and, later in life, with numerous family members and friends.
To all who knew her, Betty will be remembered for her loyalty, kindness and admirable courage in the face of ever-present disease.
Mrs. Settle is survived by two brothers, Richard Newby of Normal, IL and Max Newby of Galesburg, IL; three daughters, Margaret Massey of Carmel, Nancy McClellan of Brownsburg and Susan Kirkbride of Palm Beach, FL; her son Scott Settle of Kiawah Island, SC; five grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and four great-great-children.
