Myrtis was married to the late James E. Miller and was blessed with four sons and two daughters. Myrtis experienced the homegoing of her mother at the young age of seven. She was raised by her maternal grandmother Caroline "Carrie" Cooper until she relocated to Indianapolis in 1962 with her father. She was then embraced by Effie Vaughter who took her in and loved her like her own daughter. She was also blessed to have an aunt, Evangeline Burks who poured into her life and took on the role of her mother. Myrtis extended her kindness into the lives of many people and acquired many nicknames. Later in life, she was assigned the nickname "Big Myrt" by her nephew George Cooper, whom she loved much.
Baby Sista received Christ Jesus as her personal Lord and Savior and was a dedicated member of Community Missionary Baptist Church.
She was a faithful and committed member eager to participate when asked to serve. Baby Sista was employed at Indiana University Medicine Library as a Xerox Technician for forty years until she retired in 2004. She was a dedicated employee and shared in the lives of numerous people on her job. She met one of her best friends, Vera Johnson, on her job and would go on to attend church with her for many years.
Baby Sista was an awesome cook and enjoyed creating savory meals for her family and friends. She enjoyed reading, shopping, and traveling with her sister after she retired. Baby Sista was a joy to be around and had a great sense of humor. She was a strong God God-fearing intelligent woman. Baby Sista loved her family, children, and grandchildren. While experiencing her declining health she would often praise God and speak of the goodness of God in her life and the people who had blessed her. She was always quick to say thank you and "Isn't this beautiful" day". Big Myrt was always available to share in the needs of her children. She was loving and generous and always there when her children and family needed her.
