Norma was born June 22, 1949, in Douglas, Wyoming to the parents Wayne and Velma (Owens) Johnson. She grew up in Lance Creek and Guernsey, Wyoming and was the youngest of three children. After graduating from high school, she enlisted into the Air Force, where she operated one of the most sophisticated mainframe computers of the Vietnam era in her duties as part of payroll administration. While in the Air Force, she met her future husband, Kenneth Henderson, whom she married on May 17, 1968. Upon both their discharges from the Air Force, they moved to Indiana to begin raising their family.
Norma dedicated her life to her family; she was the one that everyone wanted to call or visit to obtain advice, to be noticed, and to be heard. She always had a smile on her face and was there to give a warm embrace. Her laughter was contagious and some of her jokes needed to be censored. She enjoyed games, puzzles, crafts, gardening, baking/cooking/canning, but most of all, she loved nature and traveling to see family and friends. Her greatest joy was seeing the accomplishments of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include her brother Owen Johnson of Chula Vista, CA; her son Christopher and his wife Vicky Henderson of Columbus, IN; her daughter Katrina and her husband Stan Baker of Bloomfield, MO; and her daughter LaDona and her husband Ryan Shuttz of Indianapolis, IN. Her eight grandchildren include: Sereana Henderson- Little and significant other Jermaine Isbell, Katheryn and her husband Bryce Barringer, Dwayne DeLong and significant other Ashley Grider, Aimy Henderson and significant other Calvin Kosso, Angelynn and her husband Trey Kirkpatrick, Larah Henderson and significant other Daltin Rosenlof, Elijsha Shuttz, and Issiac Shuttz. Her five great-grandchildren include: Tia Isbell, Amelia Isbell, Issiah Kirkpatrick, Tayleigh Kirkpatrick, and Ember Barringer.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Wayne and Velma Johnson; sister, Patty Irving; her husband, Kenneth Henderson; and sister-in-law, Shirley Johnson.
Her Celebration of Life will be on May 31, 2025, from 11am- 4pm at Brown County State Park at the Strahl Lake Shelter House in Nashville, Indiana. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the National Parks Foundation in Norma’s Memory.
