

86, of Indianapolis departed this life Wednesday, April 27, 2016. He was born June 4, 1929 in Heathville, PA to the late Norman W. and Anna C. (Klouse) Shilling, Sr. Bill proudly served his country as a sergeant in the United States Marine Corps during The Korean War. Upon his return, he joined the Indianapolis Police Department where he served from 1957 until retiring in 1979. Bill was the recipient of the IPD Purple Heart when he miraculously survived a shooting in 1965. He was a member of the IPD Hall of Fame, the Retired Police Officers Association of Indianapolis, St. Joseph Council # 5290 of the Knights of Columbus, American Legion Post #88 and Nativity Catholic Church. Bill was preceded in death by his beloved wife Evelyn A. Shilling; son-in-law, Jack Davis; brother-in-law, Ronnie Smith and sisters-in-law, Betty, Elaine and Geneva Shilling. Bill is survived by his devoted children, Mark (Julie) Shilling, Chuck (Charlene) Shilling and Debra Davis; siblings, Florence Smith, John Shilling, Don Shilling and Melvin Shilling; four grateful grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Visitation for Bill will be from 4 – 7 pm on Monday, May 2nd at Feeney-Hornak Shadeland Mortuary. Morning prayers will be said at 9:30 am on Tuesday, May 3rd at the mortuary followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in Nativity Catholic Church. Interment follows at Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested in his name to Nativity Catholic Church.
