Patricia Jameson Cochran, 97, of Indianapolis, died at her home surrounded by family on Dec. 5, 2016. Patricia was born on January 22, 1919, in Indianapolis, the first of Margaret Booth Jameson and Donald Ovid Butler Jameson’s three children. She was an astute family historian and marvelous storyteller; her memory remained razor sharp until her death. She knew the lives behind the names of many revered literary and cultural leaders, from Indiana and beyond. She was the great-great-granddaughter of Ovid Butler, founder of Butler University, and the great-niece of Booth Tarkington, two-time Pulitzer Prize-winning author. Her vivid memories of Uncle Booth and the brilliant figures who surrounded him, provided a portal to the past for all who knew her. Her passing closes the door on generations stretching back to the Civil War, and signals the end of an extraordinary era. Saturday, December 10, there will be a service at Gothic Chapel, Crown Hill Cemetery at 1 p.m. with visitation 2 hours prior to the service., with a gathering at Woodstock Country Club, 2:30-4:30 p.m. Gifts in her name can be given to Fairview Presbyterian Church.
