Patricia Ann O'Shaughnessy

Patricia A. “Pat” O’Shaughnessy, 90 of Indianapolis, IN passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 21st, 2024. Pat was born on September 16th,1934 to the late Lawrence (Joe) and Nelle Johantgen. She was a loving and devoted wife, sister, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, and will truly be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Pat grew up in Indianapolis, IN, and attended Butler University, where she was a member of Lambda Kappa Sigma Sorority. A trailblazer at the time, she was one of the first women to graduate from Butler’s School of Pharmacy in 1956. At Butler, she met the love of her life, Raymond O’Shaughnessy (deceased 2012). Pat and Ray married on October 19, 1957, and went on to raise six children. While raising her kids, she started working part time, substituting as a pharmacist at various local drug stores, including O'Shaughnessy's Drugs that she and Ray owned. She later worked full time as a pharmacist at Riverview Hospital in Noblesville. Throughout her career, she remained a member of the National Association of Retail Druggists (NARD).

Pat’s faith was an integral part of her life. She was an active member of St. Matthew and later St. Pius Parish, where she sang in the church choir and participated in many clubs and activities. She could often be found playing bridge with the ladies of her church and her pharmacist friends, whom she considered some of her closest friends.

Additionally, Pat was an avid puzzler, as she would spend many evenings playing Scrabble or doing a crossword puzzle, with a bowl of ice cream never too far out of her reach. She also loved to travel the world, and visited more than 25 countries in her lifetime. When at home Pat loved to work in her garden nurturing her flowers, giving special attention to all her roses. She also loved spending time laughing and loving on her grandchildren. When out and about, Pat was known to share a kind word or laugh with anyone who crossed her path.

Pat O’Shaughnessy is survived by her children Michael O’Shaughnessy (Diana), Dennis O’Shaughnessy (Sue), Patrick O’Shaughnessy (Katie), and Colleen Baumgartner (Tony); her grandchildren, Chuck Lindsey (Leslie), Ryan Anderson, Amy Anderson, Reed O’Shaughnessy, Tim Baumgartner, Tyler Baumgartner, Meghan O’Shaughnessy and Daniel O’Shaughnessy; Great Grandchildren Keygan Jeffries, Bosun Lindsey and Flora Macalma; siblings Peggy Cottongim, Larry Johantgen (Diane) and Steve Johantgen (Kelly); and sister-in-law, Betty Johantgen.

She was predeceased in death by her husband, Raymond O’Shaughnessy; children Tim O’Shaughnessy, and Peggy O’Shaughnessy; siblings Barb (Tom) Crump, Nick Johantgen and Toni (Jim) Luthman; and brother-in-law, Bob Cottongim.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 4th, 2024 at 10:00 am, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:15 am. Both will be held at St. Pius X Catholic Church. Pat will be laid to rest at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens in Indianapolis. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Little Sisters of the Poor or to The Alzheimer's Association.
