Patricia Anne Pierce, passed away at her home on Wednesday, November 10th, 2021, with her family by her side. She was born on November 3rd, 1930, to the late Alvin D. Davis and Hazel B. Stone Davis in Chicago, Illinois. She was the oldest of nine children. “Pat” as she was fondly called was very loving, kind, and generous towards her younger siblings, and was thought of as a “Mother Hen”. She had a sweet and gentle temperament, a quiet spirit, and a lovely smile.
Her family moved to Indianapolis prior to her starting school. She began her primary and elementary education in the public school system in Indianapolis. Pat was exceptionally intelligent, an honor student and loved mathematics. She received recognition after finding a mathematical error that had been missed for many years in one of her math textbooks. Art was her next love, and she enjoyed it while attending the John Herron Art institute. Pat was a graduate of Warren Central High School Class of 1949 and later attended Butler University. She began her employment with the Army Finance Center at Fort Benjamin Harrison, working in finance. Several years later, a new job moved her to Milwaukee, Wisconsin and subsequently to Evanston, Illinois where she met and married Warnett Pierce and of this union their daughter Robin Rene was born.
Returning to Indianapolis, she gained employment in the Indianapolis school system and retired in 2000 from Northwest High School as a financial secretary and bookkeeper, as well as operating the school’s bookstore.
Bored, following retirement, she decided to work at the newly built Avon Walmart. She spent nearly 10 years there, proud of operating the fish counter, working in the grocery department and proud of the many friends she made while there.
Pat enjoyed family time with road trips, gardening, and movies. She looked forward to the various seasons and made a hobby of nature-watching. She particularly enjoyed the hummingbirds at her window feeder, and the turtle and waterfowl families on the nearby pond. She enjoyed collecting elephant figurines and tchotchkes from family and friends. She dearly loved her pets, doting on them as her bonus children.
Pat came to know the Lord Jesus Christ at an early age, was baptized in the Lutheran faith and later converted to Catholicism. She was an active member of Our Savior Lutheran Church and of Holy Angels Catholic Church, where she was a diligent volunteer and President of both the church and school boards. She later attended Saint Malachy in Brownsburg, Indiana. As her health began to decline, she became a devotee of EWTN Catholic Network on cable television and was an active participant in daily mass and Rosary as well as other programming.
Pat was preceded in death by her parents, as well as her siblings, Marian Davis Wilson (Saul Thomas) and Norma Jean Meriweather. Those left to cherish her memory are one daughter, Robin Rene, and her loving siblings: Phyllis Lyngsgaard (Jorgen), Lois Davis-Wilson (Sherald), Elizabeth “Libby” Martin (Freeman), Robert Davis (Lidia), Kathryn Toren, and Marcia Davis, her brother-in-law Charles Meriweather (Betty), as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A funeral mass will be held Tuesday, November 30, 2021, 12 pm, at Crown Hill Funeral Home and Cemetery 700 West 38th Street, Indianapolis, IN 46208. Viewing will begin at 10am. Please join her family and friends in remembrance.
