He graduated from Crispus Attucks High School where he received a certificate in woodworking. Shortly thereafter Perry joined the Navy and was stationed in Guam. Later returning Indianapolis he and Mildred Ruth Gibbs were married on March 3, 1960.
Traveling back and forth from Indianapolis to Anderson, Indiana, Perry established a leather shop named “Maverick Leather” and he was known for his attention to detail in crafting belts, wallets, holsters and the like. This is where he met Terry and Max Simison and Herbert Huston. Over the many years the Simisons were like family to Perry. We extend our deepest gratitude to Terry and Max and to Marcus Simison who was Perry’s caregiver to the end.
Perry was known for his laughter, great stories and work ethic. He was always willing to help his family and friends when needed. He will be terribly missed.
Perry is preceded in death by his parents, wife Ruth Balumgraph and sister Bernita Brown. Perry leaves behind his sister Berniece Hayden and host of family and friends.
A visitation for Perry will be held Saturday, January 18, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Crown Hill Funeral Home & Cemetery, 700 W. 38th St., Indianapolis, Indiana 46208, followed by a Celebration of Life at 12:00 PM.
