

Richard E. Beck, 88, passed away peacefully on February 18, 2018. He was born on March 2, 1929 in Indianapolis, Indiana, where he lived his whole life. He graduated from Arsenal Technical High School where he was awarded a full-time scholarship to Herron School of Art and Design. He proudly served in the U.S. Army for two years during the Korean War.
In addition to working at Eli Lilly for 28 years as Head Art Director, he also worked at Gene Lacy Studios and operated his own business, Richard E. Beck Design.
Richard was very active in the art community in Indianapolis. He was President Emeritus of the Alumni Association of Herron School of Art & Design, and also received "The President's Award" from Indiana University in 1998 for outstanding alumni work. He judged many school art shows at the K-12 and university levels, and both the Art Directors Show of Chicago and Kansas City, Missouri. In 1962, he was one of three judges who chose the flag of Indianapolis.
He was president of the Art Director's Club of Indiana and received many top prizes at their annual shows. He was a Board Member for the Greater Indianapolis Committee for the Arts, the Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra, and the Ensemble Music Society. He served as both member and president of "The Portfolio Club" and was a member of "The Salon Society".
He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Rosemary Browne Beck, his brother Charles Wayne Beck; his three boys Brian Beck (Huyen), Dane Beck (Julie) and Adam Beck (Renee); grandchildren Nathan Beck (Joy), Ashley Knauer (Bryan), Anna Morales, Chelsey Roney (Aaron), Kenzie Meek-Beck and one great grandchild Oliver Knauer.
Visitation will begin at 12 p.m. on Friday February 23rd at the Gothic Chapel on the grounds of Crown Hill Cemetery in Indianapolis. A celebration of his life will follow at 1 p.m.
