Richard "Rick" Bowen Weedon, passed peacefully into the afterlife on April 6, 2026. Rick was a beloved husband, brother, grandfather, and dog dad. At age 68, of Somerset, KY, he passed away after a courageous battle with ALS.
Rick was born on November 8, 1957, in Indianapolis, Indiana to Robert H. and JoAnn Weedon. He graduated from Park Tudor High School in 1976 and went on to attend Butler University. Like his father before him, he built a career with Indianapolis-based Eli Lilly & Co., where he worked for many years. A lifelong Indiana Hoosiers fan, Rick enjoyed years of warm, good-natured rivalry with his older brother Bob, a Purdue graduate. He was deeply proud to have witnessed the Indiana Hoosiers win the college football national championship before his passing; a fact he made sure no one around him forgot.
Rick loved animals with his whole heart, particularly horses. He spent his formative years showing hunters and jumpers and was an avid fox hunter. His beloved mount, Bud, a Clydesdale-Thoroughbred had been cross bred by the Anheuser-Busch farms. Distantly related to the famous Budweiser Clydesdales, Bud was a source of great pride and joy.
Over the years, Rick shared his home and his heart with numerous pets, and he leaves behind Peyton and Lilly Belle, sibling Jack Russell Terrier-Poodle mixes who were his faithful companions to the end.
Rick also loved the water. He and his devoted wife, Tammie, spent many happy days on Lake Cumberland and the warm Gulf waters of Florida, boating together and riding Jet Skis. The two made their home in Sebring and Lake Placid, Florida, where the sunshine and sand were always close by. As Rick's health declined, he and Tammie relocated to Somerset, KY, where they continued to face each day together with the same love and commitment that defined their life as a couple.
Rick’s love language was quality time. He embraced traveling and going on ocean cruises with Tammie and their many friends and family. Rick had a quiet way of taking care of people. He was the kind of man who never passed up a chance to help someone in need and never wanted a bit of credit for doing so.
Rick is survived by his loving wife, Tammie Bertram Weedon; his twin sister, Virginia Louise Grant (Denney), nee Weedon, of Branch, MI; and his older brother, Dr. George Robert Weedon of Polk City, FL. He leaves behind two stepdaughters, Dawn Koepper (Doug) and Tammara Denney; and one stepson, Nick Denney (Lillian). His step-grandchildren are Amanda, Summer, Cheyenne, Latisha, and Sasha, along with one step-great-granddaughter, Brynslee.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert H. and JoAnn Weedon; his first wife of 34 years, Jacquelyn R. Weedon nee Jackson and one stepson, Brett Sawyers.
Rick leaves behind a family who adored him, a life full of adventure, and the kind of memories that time will never fade. He will be greatly missed and forever remembered.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at 1 p.m., at Crown Hill Cemetery, 700 W. 38th Street, Indianapolis, IN 46208.
