Roberto Regino (Bob) Villegas, Sr. (89), died October 10, 2015 in Indianapolis, IN. By his side was his loving wife of 71 years, Dominga.
Mr. Villegas lived a very unselfish life, giving to many and expecting nothing in return. His giving started when he chose to serve our Country in World War II. Mr. Villegas served in The Pacific Theater as an Army Amphibian Tractor Driver, Military Policeman, Longshoreman and Truck Driver. He was in The Battle of Peleliu, Battle of Leyte Gulf, Okinawa and the Liberation of the Philippines. He is decorated with an Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon, Philippine Liberation Ribbon, Bronze Arrowhead Victory Medal and Good Conduct Medal. After the military, he spent most of his working career as an over-the-road-driver. He was a proud Teamsters member until his retirement from Consolidated Freightways.
He volunteered as a coach for youth sports as a young, busy father. Once he settled his family in Indianapolis in the 1950's, he coached Little League, Pony League and Girls Softball. In the early 60s, he was instrumental in building a Pony League field on the southwest side; helping to give many young men a chance to play ball and exhibit their talents after they graduated from Little League. He coached many at that level who went on to play high school and college ball. "Coach Villegas" was proud of those young men until the day he passed away.
He is survived by his wife, Minga; children, Robert Villegas, Jr., Rick Villegas, John Villegas (Linda), Debbie Villegas, Cynthia Villegas, Michelle Villegas; grandchildren, Erin Kelly, Adriane Villegas, Dagny Villegas (Charlie Slinger), Roberto Villegas III, Edward Blodgett (Sylvia), Tricia Ball (Jerry), Cole Davis; great grandchildren, Nhiya , Kenna, Mari, Samantha, Brandy, Jasmine, Amber, Tailir, Richard, Jace, Pharyn; great-great grand daughter, Londyn.
