

Ruth A. Lawrence, 96, of Indianapolis, died Friday, January 23, 2015 at Green Tree Assisted Living Community in Indianapolis. Born August 9, 1918 on Lime Island, Michigan, Ruth was the daughter of the late Albert and Anna (Ballam) Stevenson. She graduated from Sault (Michigan) High School in 1935. Ruth married James Lawrence in 1940.
During WWII, Ruth volunteered as a driver in the Civilian Truck Corp. After the war, she became a homemaker. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, reading, nature and her church activities. She was a lifelong member of the Episcopal church.
Surviving are two daughters: Trudy (Alan) Gugin of Redding, CA and Ann (David) Brown of Indianapolis, IN; sister Eleanor (Fran) Papineau of Roseville, CA; 5 grandchildren: Matthew (Kat) Gugin, Mark Gugin, Heather (Tony) Gordon, Elizabeth (Michael) Burke, and James Brown; and 5 great grandchildren: Dillon, Drew, Carson, David, and Victoria.
She was predeceased by her husband James, son David, brothers: Kenneth, Norman, Raymond, Donald, and Wayne Stevenson; and sister Gertrude Sims.
A memorial service will be held in her home town of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan in July.
