

Ruth Elenor (West) Mercer, 74, of Indianapolis, Indiana passed away Sunday April 23, 2017. Born September 22, 1942 in Centralia, IL to the late Dwight E. and R. Evelyn (Wilson) West, Ruth attended Elkhart Central High School and Graduated from Centralia Twp. High School, Illinois. She married Gerald (Jerry) D. Mercer on her 21st birthday in 1963. He survives, along with her son John Mercer, daughter Jill Mercer, 5 amazing grandchildren, 3 beautiful great-granddaughters, and many loving cousins and friends.
Ruth was a devoted and loving wife, mother and life-long volunteer. A full-time home-maker, she gave her time to her family and the communities where she and Jerry lived, including Elkhart, IN, San Mateo, Redwood City, Arnold and Angels Camp, CA, and Indianapolis, IN. During her life, Ruth was an active member of the Elkhart Jayshees, San Mateo Newcomers Club, Palo Alto Yacht Club, Soroptomist International, St. Paul’s UMC of Elkhart, and St. Pius X Catholic Church of Indianapolis. As part of her volunteer work, she organized, edited and published several cookbooks and recipe collections benefitting these and other charitable organizations.
A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday from 10am until 12pm with a Mass of Christian Burial beginning 12pm at St. Pius X, 7200 Sarto Drive, Indianapolis, IN 46240.
In place of flowers, Ruth asked that donations be given to St. Mary’s Child Center in Indianapolis, or a non-profit early childhood development program in your own community.
