Obituary of Sandra Sears Cooper
Sandra Sears Cooper, 83, passed away peacefully at Life’s Journey Hospice Center in Avon, Indiana, on November 20 following a brief battle with cancer. She was born in Indianapolis on January 24, 1938 to the late Donald P. and Lorene L. Sears. Sandra – or Nanny or Nan as she was known to many family members – was a proud 1956 graduate of Washington High School in Indianapolis and a lifelong westside resident. She spent most of her professional life working in telecommunications with Allison Gas Turbine, Allison Transmission, and Electronic Data Systems (EDS), retiring in 1999. Sandra enjoyed many hobbies, including reading, crocheting and writing, and was a member of the Red Hat Society and the Christian Women’s Group at Bridgeport United Methodist Church. She looked forward to the monthly bunco get-togethers with friends and neighbors, as well as the annual family Tripoley Tournament, of which she was a two-time winner. Never one to pass up a chance to travel, she enjoyed trips to the many casinos throughout Indiana, as well as Las Vegas and Tunica, with family and friends. Sandra was preceded in death by the love of her life, John B. Cooper, Jr., who passed away in 2017. They had been married for 57 years. She is survived by her son, Scott Cooper (Liz); daughter, Leslie Szabo (Mike); grandchildren Brittany and Dustin Dishman, Michael and Bradley Szabo (Carolyn); great-grandchildren Hailey, Brooklyn, and Landon Szabo; Lucas and Grayson Dishman; Connor and Dean Szabo; and Aiden Dishman. Also, sister Andrea Pappas, and brothers Larry Sears, Steve Sears, Mike Fair and Paul Fair. A Celebration of Remembrance for Sandra will be held Saturday, December 11, at Family Funeral Care, 5791 Rockville Road, Indianapolis from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the Indiana United Methodist Children's Home (iumch.org). Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
