

She was preceded in death by her first husband Frank Hillard, (1982) her husband Steve Stelzel, ( 2013) her parents and her brother Terry Sanford. She is survived by her loving sister Gaye (George) Ireland, her daughter Annette (Mike) Milner of Martinsville and her cherished grandchildren Caleb and Kelsey Milner who were the pride and joy of her life Sandi also had three stepdaughters, 4 step grandchildren and several step great grandchildren.
She attended George Washington high school and was in the first graduating class of Northwest High School in 1965. Out of high school, Sandi went to work for her father at Retail Clerks Union U.F. C. W. as a secretary, where she worked until after the passing of her first husband, Frank. She then worked for Liberty Mutual, Marsh McLennan Insurance group and ended her career at Department of Indiana American Legion Auxiliary.
She was always active with any organization presented to her, serving as a board member or officer in several. Known for her big heart and even bigger voice on the sidelines, Sandi was her daughter and grandkids loudest and most enthusiastic cheerleader at countless sporting events. She treasured her time spent with friends, especially nights spent at the American Legion Post 500 and memories made at Dale Hollow Lake where she has owned a houseboat for over 30 years.
She is a paid up for life member of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 500 , the VFW Post 5864 Auxiliary , the Speedway Moose, Tarum Court #14 Ladies Oriental Shrine of North America and International Association of Turtles.
She owned a tremendous collection of Boyd Bears and several cat trinkets. She was so saddened when she was no longer able to care for her beloved furbabies, Bubbles, Susie and Shadow.
Sandi will be remembered for her beautiful smile followed by her laughter, her love of family and the joy she brought to every gathering.
Family & friends are invited to gather on Monday, September 15, 2025, at Family Funeral Care, 5791 Rockville Rd, Indianapolis. Visitation will be held from 2-4pm followed by a service honoring her life. In accordance with her wishes, there will be no burial service.
In lieu of flowers please make donations in her name to American Lung Association, Breast Cancer Awareness or American Legion Auxiliary Unit 500 in Speedway.
