

Sharon was educated in the Indianapolis Public School System and was a proud graduate of Shortridge High School. Upon completing her education, she began her career at RCA, where she remained employed for five years. She later united with Indiana Bell (now AT&T), where she rendered 28 years of dedicated service. Sharon continued her professional career with the Internal Revenue Service, serving faithfully for 16 years before retiring.
At the age of 13, Sharon accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior at Northside New Era Baptist Church. She remained a faithful and devoted member throughout her life. Sharon served in the Music Ministry for more than 50 years and worked diligently in various ministries of the church, including the Youth and Young Adult Usher BOARD, the women’s ministry, the Finance Ministry for over 15 years, the Culinary Ministry, Feed My Sheep food pantry, and Grandma Chefs Ministry, via “Operation More Hope.” Her life exemplified faithful service and a genuine love for God’s people.
On Tuesday, January 20, 2026, Sharon peacefully answered the call of her Heavenly Father while at home. She was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Kimberly Jo Grider; her parents, Samuel L. Walker and Bernice O. Washington; her grandmother, Lillian C. Bridgewater; her aunts, Margaret Taylor and Geraldine Lee; her uncle, Robert “Corney” Bridgewater; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Sharon leaves to cherish her precious memory her daughters, Michelle (Theron) Kirk and Yvette (Kenny) Wells; her goddaughter, Tracy Grundy; her sister, Alese “Pinky” James; her aunt, Betty Jean Alestock; seven grandchildren—Amber Bridges, Darius Grider, Creshon Madison, Isaiah Maxwell, Kevon Madison, Malachi Grider, and Jeremiah Reed; three great-grandchildren—Amir Bridges, Zuri Grider, and Adaye Madison; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, church family, and friends.
A virtuous woman of faith, Sharon Lee Walker-Grider leaves a legacy of service, love, and unwavering devotion to God. Her life and memory will forever be cherished.
A visitation will be held at New Era Church, located at 517 W 30th St, Indianapolis, IN, 46208, on January 31, 2026, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm. Following the visitation, a Celebration of Life will take place at the same venue, starting at 12:00 pm.
