Vincent Keith Buckner Jr., was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on March 20, 1980. He attended Indianapolis Public schools and graduated from Lawrence North high school. Vincent was one of the first students with Disabilities to integrate IPS.
Vincent began attending the IUMD in 1991 when the students at Indiana University founded Dance Marathon in memory of Ryan White. The program now spans North America benefiting hundreds of Hospitals and countless kids in the United States and Canada. Since then, IUDM has raised over 40 million dollars for Riley Hospital for Children. Todd Morris, one of the founding members of the IUDM stated “Vincent was an important part of the IUDM Legacy. He shared purpose, inspiration, and hope to thousands of others over the years. I am grateful for his wonderful life and legacy”. In addition, Vincent loved and attended Agape Respite Care located In Berne Indiana for more than 20 years. Agape specializes in enhancing the quality of life for the individuals receiving care as well as their families.
Vincent knew the Lord Jesus Christ. He believed in Jesus with all his heart. He knew that the Lord would see him through regardless of the hundreds of surgeries and hospitalizations that he went through in his precious life. At one time he showed us the “faith of a mustard seed.” Prior to a total spine reconstruction, he asked me “Mama is it gonna hurt?” And I replied, “Yes Son, it’s going to hurt.” His reply was “no it’s not! Jesus isn’t gonna let it hurt!” God answered his prayers and Vincent felt no pain after the surgery and never wanted or needed any pain meds. Now THAT’S a testimony!
He was preceded in death by his Grandfathers; Joseph Nathan Ruffin II, Walter Delacey, William Buckner, and his Grandmother Phyllis Buckner. To mourn his passing, he leaves his Grandmother Annemarie DeLacey, his Mother Rosalie Black and his Fathers; Nathaniel Black Sr and Vincent Buckner Sr, his brother, Nate Black Jr. and sisters, Cesalie Black, and Gina Cabell. Numerous Aunts and Uncles, Nephews and Nieces and Cousins of whom he loved and adored.
Death is inevitable. Vincent never gave up...... But he had to give in when the Lord called him home. Rest in peace my love, our sweet Angel Vincent. We will all miss your big beautiful, and captivating smile.
