
Married to James Campbell on October 23, 1939, she bore her only child Corliss Jean Campbell on January 6, 1941.
She confessed her faith in Christ and was a long time member of Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church where she was an active choir member as well as took part in other church organizations. She later changed her church membership to Northside New Era Baptist church to attend services with her beloved husband William Davenport who she married in 1981.
Although she obtained her beautician’s license from the Madam CJ Walker Beauty School, her career was at Indiana University Hospital where she worked as an Engraver. Virginia retired on September 21, 1984 after thirty-eight years of service.
Mother loved to sing in the choir while at Mt Olive and gospel music. She enjoyed sewing, crafts, and attending social events.
Virginia LaVerna Davenport departed life on December 24, 2014 at the age of 91 years old while a resident at Westminster Village North. Virginia was preceded in death by her husband William Davenport, daughter Corliss Jean Lumpkins, and mother Maude Porter.
She is survived by four granddaughters, Terri (Kelly Crockett) Moore, Jocalyn (Alphonso) Spearman, Patrice (James, Sr) Kendrick, and Jana Lumpkins, two grandsons Bryant (Felicia) Moore and Felix (Tina) Lumpkins as well as fourteen great-grandchildren and a host of great-great grandchildren, other relatives, and friends.
