

William Lawrence Hodgens, Beloved son of Thomas and Mary Jo (Grundy) Hodgens, was born on September 25, 1954, in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was baptized, received his First Communion and Confirmation at St. Rita’s Catholic Church. He attended St. Rita’s Elementary School and IPS School #110 and graduated from Arlington High School in 1973. He received his associate degree from Ivy Tech Community College.
Larry served in the U.S. Navy, during his service in Japan, one of his duties for his fellow troops was DJ, and he was honorably discharged for his service and returned home to be a loving husband and father.
Larry was employed at Indianapolis Power and Light Company, The US Postal Service in downtown Indianapolis, St. Rita Catholic Church, and Keough Construction. He retired from the Roudebush VA Medical Center.
Larry rededicated his life to Christ and became a member of Crosspointe Baptist Church, where he became part of the family. He loved to read and watch good westerns. His favorite writer was Louis Lamar. He was an avid fisherman and fancied himself an all-around handyman. He knew he was one of Indy’s best at home Chefs with mouthwatering meals that could change your life.
Larry never met a stranger, when he walked into a room, he greeted you with his warm smile. He was always dressed to impress and by the time he left the room you were bent over laughing. Affectionately known as “L.H.”
Larry loved to have a good time. He flew kites, gave advice to those in need, and greeted those he loved with hugs and kisses. Larry was a proud father to William and Dion. He was a loving Grandfather and Great Grandfather. He will be missed by many who love and cherish his memory.
Larry fell asleep in the arms of the Lord surrounded by his family on December 15, 2022, at the age of sixty-eight years, two months and twenty-eight days. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Mary Jo and his three brothers, Thomas, Charles and Joseph.
William L. Hodgens leaves to cherish his memory, His sons Dion Hodgens (Precious) and William Hodgens; His stepdaughter Maya, His Grandchildren; Caprice, Dominique, Keirsten, Shanya, LaMonte’, Dion Jr. Dionna, and Antwaun. His brother; George Hodgens (Verlinda), His sisters; Margaret Bush and Sandra Jones, His Sister-In-law Sharon Hodgens, along with a host of Nieces, Nephews, Grand Nieces, Grand Nephews, Great Nieces, Great Nephews, Cousins and Friends.
“Our father, brother, uncle, cousin and friend, will be missed, but Larry has at last found peace.”
A visitation for William will be held Saturday, December 31, 2022, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Crown Hill Funeral Home & Cemetery, 700 W. 38th St., Indianapolis, Indiana 46208, followed by a celebration of life at 12:00 PM.
