William Buckner Markey, affectionately known as Tinsy, was the second of 8 children of Napoleon and Mary E. (Hinton) Markey (a.k.a. Betty), born October 21, 1949 in Indianapolis, IN. Story has it, that when William was born, he was much smaller in size than his more endowed older Brother Napoleon Jr.; as such, Napoleon Sr. referred to him as a "Tinsy" and Napoleon Jr. as a "Hoochie" for his larger stature. Tinsy shared his formative years with his older Brother Napoleon Jr. (a.k.a. Hoochie), younger Sister Blanche, younger Brother Anthony (a.k.a. Tony), younger Sisters Connie and Theresa. His youngest Brothers Maurice (Tamara) and John (Tiffany) were born shortly before and after Tinsy left home, respectively. Tinsy attended St. Rita's Catholic School and Chatard High School, where he enjoyed sports, to include football, baseball and track. He graduated Chatard in June 1967. Tinsy's Father, Napoleon, preceded him in death.
After graduation, Tinsy joined the United State's Air Force, serving our Country during the Vietnam War, stationed in the Philippines. Tinsy would battle the effect of this experience for much of his life. In 1970, Tinsy was married to Bobbie Bell (Gardner) and to this union his only Son Warrick was born. Warrick, Tinsy's Grandkids Warrick Jr. and Alaya, his Mother Betty, his Siblings and a host of nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews and cousins, all survive him in death.
Tinsy was a free spirit of sorts and traveled where opportunity presented itself for work. He spent much of his life on the West Coast of the country, Denver, Portland, California and Hawaii, before eventually returning to Indianapolis to be close to family. Tinsy always had a sense of loyalty to family and had an uncanny ability to "keep tabs" on everyone; current location where you lived, names of your children and your birthday.
