
Benjamin “Ben” Hartwell Warren, IV, 99, of Northport, passed away August 12, 2015 at Hospice of West Alabama in Tuscaloosa. He was born in Jackson on August 16, 1915. Prior to WWII, he served briefly in the U.S. Navy. During the war, he served as a liaison pilot for Third Army in the China Burma India Theater of Operations, earning Distinguished Flying Cross with Oak Leaf device, Asia Pacific Campaign medal and Good Conduct medal. After the war, he operated an auto dealership in Jackson before working for the State of Alabama Department of Revenue from which he retired in 1977. He was preceded in death by his wife, Edyth Blanks Warren whom he married on July 3, 1942; parents, Ollye Hall Warren and Benjamin Warren, III and sister, Gwendolyn Warren. He is survived by his daughter Evelyn “Lyn” Warren Slattery (Dick) of Northport; granddaughters, Katherine Slattery Oblinger (Ashley) of Marietta, GA and Jennifer Ryan Slattery of Atlanta, GA and great-grandson Camden Michael Oblinger of Marietta, GA. The family extends special thanks to the staff, nurses and CNAs at Hunter Creek Nursing Home as well as the staff and nurses at Hospice of West Alabama. A graveside service will be conducted in Jackson on August 14, 2015 at 11 a.m. at Trinity Memorial Gardens with Lathan Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be conducted at 10 a.m. at Lathan Funeral Home in Jackson. In lieu of flowers, donations to Hospice of West Alabama would be appreciated.
