

Billie Jean Thornton was born in October 26, 1935 in Simpson County. She was graduated from Magee High School (Class of 1945), Copiah Lincoln Community College and attended the University of Southern Mississippi before entering the School of Medical Technology at the Mississippi Baptist Medical Center. After graduating, she worked 40 years as a Med. Tech. in Hattiesburg, MS, Long Beach, CA, Mississippi Baptist Medical Center, Brantley Medical Lab, Hinds General Hospital and Methodist Medical Center from which she retired.
Billie Jean married William (Bill) F. Thornton on March 09, 1957. They had two children, Andrea and Stan and she enjoyed being active in their school activities. She was involved in community and civic events and was a member of South Jackson Civic League. She served her church in numerous positions, whether it was Oak Forest Baptist, First Baptist Byram, Daniel Memorial Baptist, First Baptist Jackson, Parkway Baptist and Morrison Heights. Billie Jean enjoyed studying God’s precepts. One of her favorite bible study groups was the Charlotte Causey Bible Study Group of which she served as leader for several years.
Mrs. Thornton enjoyed being a homemaker and gardening, but most of all, being a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be remembered by many as a special lady, friend, confidant, and model servant of her lord.
Billie Jean leaves behind her husband, William (Bill) F. Thornton of 60 years; daughter, Andrea Patrick (Wayne) of Terry, son, Stan Thornton of Madison; grandchildren, Bradley Patrick (Hope), Brandon Patrick, Carlie Thornton and Kaylee Thornton; great grandchildren, Wyatt Patrick and Weston Patrick; sister, Evelyn G. Bousson (Jeb) of Mobile, AL; many nieces and nephews and their families that she loved as her own.
She was preceded in death by her brother, John Grubbs; and parents, Dale and Eva Grubbs.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Bobby Graham and the compassionate staff at Jackson Oncology, as well as the great staff of Kindred Hospice. Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 10, 2017 from 9am to 11 am at Morrison Heights Baptist Church with a funeral service to follow at 11 am. Interment to follow at Lakewood South Memorial Park.
