Ms. Carolyn Lowther Nelson

Mrs. Carolyn Nelson, 78, passed away on Friday, May 15, 2015 at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson. Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 PM on Tuesday, May 19, 2015 at Lakewood Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at Alta Woods Baptist Church on Wednesday at 11:00 AM with visitation beginning at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at Lakewood Memorial Park.

Mrs. Nelson was born on September 23, 1936 to the late James Thomas and Alma Robertson Lowther. She attended Central High School and later earned her Master’s Degree at Mississippi College. She then went to work at the State Department of Education for 43 years. She has been a member of Alta Woods Baptist Church since 1950 where she taught Sunday School for over 60 years and was involved in many activities throughout the years.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Walter B Nelson, Jr. and her parents.

Mrs. Nelson is survived by her son, Tommy Nelson (Robbie); daughter, Suzanne Wilkerson (Guyce); brother, Dr. James D Lowther (Gayle); grandchildren, Dillon Whitfield, Ashley Whitfield, Christopher Whitfield, Amber Bullock, Lane Nelson, Glenn Randall; great grandchildren, Nala and Hazel Bullock; and special friend, Gerald Dean.
