

Visitation will take place 9 am Saturday, March 13, 2010, at Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home on High St with service to follow at 11am. Graveside service will be at 4 pm at the York Cemetery in York, AL.
Cecil was born February 6, 1926 in York, AL. He was an Iwo Jima survivor who was awarded 2 Purple Hearts for his bravery and service.
The owner of Independent Auto Appraisers and Matheney Ford, Cecil never met a stranger. In later years, he was very active in the Marine Corps League and was a celebrated speaker in veteran circles. Cecil was a longstanding member of the Lions Club and Walter Scott Coffee Club. He was a member of Broadmeadow United Methodist Church where he spent many years coaching and playing softball. Cecil had many avid interests including fishing, hunting and traveling the world. He was devoted to his pets.
He was preceded in death by his childhood sweetheart and wife of 51 years, Rosalyn Tate Matheney; his sister, Kathryn Pogue; and his brother, Leslie Matheney. A loving father and grandfather, he is survived by daughters, Kimberly Massey (Donald) of Madison, MS, and Kerry Cook (Jeff) of Meridian, MS; grandsons, Anderson Cook (Shereen) of Nashville, TN, and Cameron Massey of Yokohama, Japan; granddaughter, Lacey Cook of Jackson, MS; and great grandson, Abraham Cook, of Nashville, TN. Cecil is also survived by his traveling companion, Sarah Louise Murphy of Jackson, MS and many friends and neighbors.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in his memory to Mississippi Animal Rescue League.
