It is with profound sadness that we share that Daniel C. Vogt passed away the evening of July 30. He was most recently a resident at Clinton Healthcare, preceded by Brookdale Senior Living (Clinton) and The Waterford (Ridgeland, MS).
Daniel was born on August 8, 1943 in Paterson, New Jersey to Camille Vogt Jr and Hildegard (Vogel) Vogt. He grew up in Haledon, New Jersey along with his sister Marianne (Vogt) Decker.
He will be remembered as a soft-spoken man with a keen mind and a generous heart. He had a lifelong passion for reading and for classical music. He retired from Jackson State University in 2006 where he had been a professor in the History Department for more than 38 years. Dr. Vogt attended Bob Jones University where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree in History in 1965. He completed his Ph.D in History at The University of Southern Mississippi in 1980.
Dan was a long-time member of Providence Presbyterian Church in Clinton. For many years, he worked in the Sunday School department and on the church newsletter. All of us are deeply touched by the many years of kindness and generosity from the members of Providence.
A service of remembrance and celebration will be held on August 16 at 11:00 am at the Providence Presbyterian Church, 1580 Clinton Raymond Road, Clinton.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations be made to:
Providence Presbyterian and/or Laura Lavallee, Missionary, https://wycliffe.org/partner/lclavalleeh
Danel is survived by his nephew, Philip Decker of Dallas, Georgia; his wife Kuniko and their daughter, Aiko Annaliese Decker as well as his brother-in-law, The Rev. A. James Decker of Irwin, PA. He will be greatly missed.
