Dorothy B Carpenter (Dot) passed away Tuesday, January 12, 2021 at the age of 88 of natural causes. She was born in Scooba, Mississippi on August 4, 1932 to John and Walterine Boyd. Dot is survived by her daughters, Debbie and Penny Carpenter of Clinton, her much loved granddaughter Hannah Jones Belshee (Jeff) of Chicago, Illinois, step-great granddaughter Violet, as well as her brother, Lonnie Boyd (Carolyn) of Clinton and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 53 years, Ray W. Carpenter, her daughter and son-in-law Terri and Doug Jones, her brother John M. Boyd (Jay) and sister Elsie English.
Dot or Sister as her family called her, graduated from Union High School as salutatorian of her class. She worked as a secretary at Union High School, East Central Jr. College and Murray High School. She met her husband Ray while they were both employed at Union High School in Union, Mississippi, where he was a new coach. They were married on November 26, 1952. They later moved to Jackson, Mississippi and in 1957, she began working at F. W. State Agency which later became USF&G and worked there until she retired in 1994. The family moved to Clinton in1965 and were members of Morrison Heights Baptist Church. She was a proud member of the Wick and Wax Sunday School Class for many years. She loved gardening but her passion was reading and her granddaughter Hannah.
Due to severe safety concerns related to COVID-19, a small private ceremony will be held for the immediate family on Saturday, January 16 and no other services will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Morrison Heights Baptist Church at 3000 Hampstead Boulevard, Clinton, Mississippi 39056.
