Eva Mae Hancock Wiggs

She was born the fifth of six children to Joseph Matthew and Lucy Mae Germany Hancock in Yazoo county Mississippi on April 20, 1930. She graduated from Satartia High School in Yazoo county. She married Jimmy Dee Wiggs Sr. on June 4, 1955 and resided in Jackson Mississippi until relocating to New Hebron in 1995.

Eva was a member of New Hebron Baptist Church. She loved reading her Bible which she was in the process of reading through completely for the sixth time. She also enjoyed reading books from her favorite authors Nicholas Sparks and Debbie Macomber. She enjoyed quilting especially making quilts for her children and grandchildren.

After a career in the newspaper business with the Clarion Ledger in Jackson and Keith Press in Raymond she turned her home into a daycare which became one of the joys of her life. During this time she always enjoyed the opportunity to share the Gospel of Jesus with the unknown number of children that she kept over the years. On many occasions she would encounter some of these children after they were grown and often had them wanting her to keep their child.

Eva was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 65 years; brothers, Nolan Hancock, Oscar Hancock, Aubrey Hancock, Chester Hancock; sister, Katheryn Hancock; son-in-law, Richard Keys. She is survived by four children: Dee Wiggs (Brenda), Gary Wiggs (Amye), Wayne Wiggs (Charisse), and daughter Jennifer Keys; grandchildren, Chad Wiggs, Matt Wiggs, Joseph Wiggs, Amanda Vaughn, Leslie Jackson, and Mollie Woods, and 12 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 23, 2022 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at New Hebron Baptist Church, 311 Main Ave, New Hebron, Mississippi 39140. Her funeral service will be held at New Hebron Baptist Church on Wednesday at 11:00 AM with the visitation one hour prior. A graveside service will follow at 2:00 PM at Lakewood South Memorial Park, 430 McCluer Rd, Jackson, Mississippi 39212.
