

Frank Moore Buchanan, Jr., age 67, died Saturday, August 28 at University Medical Center in Jackson. Funeral services will be Tuesday, August 31 at 11am in the Sanctuary at First Baptist Church of Jackson with visitation beginning at 9:30am on Tuesday in the Sanctuary. Burial will be at the Indianola Cemetery in Indianola, MS with a graveside service at 3pm on Tuesday. Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Frank Buchanan, Jr. was a native of Indianola, MS and lived in several towns in Mississippi including Cleveland, Southaven, Greenville, & Grenada. He lived the last 25 years in Jackson, MS. He was married to Elaine Howell Buchanan for 41 years. Elaine went to be with our Lord in March 2009. They had three children and six grandchildren. He was known for his love of family, wood working, being outdoors, Saturday night cook-outs, coaching his sons in youth sports, and as a doting “Granddaddy”.
He graduated from Indianola High School in 1961, Mississippi Delta Junior College in 1962, and Mississippi State University in 1965 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He was a member of the United States Air National Guard from 1967 - 1973. He was retired from Entergy after 39 years of service. He was an Electrical Engineer and served the company in several positions including District Manager, Director of Engineering, and Manager of Construction & Design.
He was a member of First Baptist Church Jackson where he was a Life Deacon. He served as Chairman of Personnel Committee and Missions Committee at First Baptist Church Grenada. He enjoyed going on mission trips to build churches. Mission trips included Belize, Panama, California, Montana, and MS Gulf Coast. He was Past President of Jackson Downtown Exchange Club, Officer & Director of the Lions Club and Rotary Club, and was Chairman of the Grenada County Red Cross.
Survivors include sons Frank Buchanan, III (Jennifer) of Jackson, David Howell Buchanan (Page) of Mobile; daughter, Laura Buchanan Owen (Robert) of Hattiesburg; six grandchildren; Sarah Buchanan, Sam Buchanan, Thomas Owen, Logan Owen, Brooks Owen, and Aidan Buchanan; brothers, Curtis Buchanan (Kay) of Greenville, John Buchanan (Virginia) of Hiram, Ohio, and Keith Buchanan (Kathy) of Brandon; and sister, Linda Buchanan Brewer (Jerry) of Senatobia.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Elaine Howell Buchanan; parents, Frank Buchanan, Sr. and Iris Buchanan Lundy.
