Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 19, 2018 at Lakewood Memorial Park Cemetery, 6000 Clinton Blvd., Jackson MS for James L. Pittman who passed away on Tuesday, October 16, 2018, at home surrounded by his family. Visitation will be at 1:00 pm with a graveside service at 2:00 pm with Brother Danny Dickerson, Kindred Hospice Chaplain and Brother Tal Vardaman, Chaplain for Mississippi Care Center in Morton, MS officiating the ceremony.
Mr. Pittman was the son of the late James Warren Pittman and the late Fannie Thompson Pittman of Columbia, MS. He was raised and educated in Columbia. He attended Pearl River Jr. College and joined the NA National Guard with some of his best friends. He enjoyed spending time with family, being outdoors, hunting, fishing, cutting firewood and sharing his love of welding with his family. Later in life, he enjoyed watching deer and feeding squirrels at his house. He had a quick wit about him and always created a laugh when it was least expected. He tried not to take life too seriously.
He is survived by his wife, Jan Jenkins Pittman, daughters, Tammy Pittman, Cathy Pittman Allen (Bill), Dana Pittman Grantham (Doug); a son, James Richard Pittman (Debbie); four grandchildren: Natalie Grantham, Kellie Grantham, Justin Allen (Hannah), and Casey Allen. Three great grandchildren: Landyn Grantham, John Paul “JP” Allen and Charlie Anne Allen. A sister, Betty Ann Pittman Chapman (John) and a nephew, Carter Chapman (Kabrina), a great niece, Rileigh Chapman and great nephew, Michael Chapman.
Mr. Pittman is preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Austin Pittman and a niece, Rae Ann Chapman.
He also leaves a very special group of friends from childhood and from work who have been so faithful with their prayers and visits to him; and a staff of wonderful caregivers at MS Care Center of Morton, and with Kindred Hospice
