Our amazing mother and grandmother, Joan Carroll Brown passed away on Tuesday May 24, at the age of 91 after a long and full life. She was an accomplished artist, gardener and advocate for all those in need. She was very loved and will be terribly missed.
She was born February 22, 1931 in New Orleans, La and lived in Texas and Mississippi throughout her life. She studied art in school and was a very talented painter in most all mediums, watercolor being her favorite. As a young women, she started her many adventures by becoming a stewardess for Capital Airlines which further instilled her love for travel. She was a wonderful wife, daughter, mom, grandmother and friend loving and taking care of us but still managing to work professionally using her talent for State agencies (Forestry Commission) and health and caring facilities such as UMMC childrens hospital, Mississippi Methodist Rehab and a variety of special needs groups. She had a special heart for all those in need, supporting and advocating for special needs individuals since she and daddy were raising a child with Down’s syndrome themselves. Animals were also a love and passion for her and she supported a variety of organizations.
She was preceded in death by the love of her life, Howard A Brown and one child, parents Emmie and John William Carroll. She leaves behind her daughter Cindy Phillips, son(in law)Ricky, two beautiful granddaughters and their families, Christina and Josh McGee, Ally and Michael; Natalie and Mac Flynt and Chloe, her youngest daughter Carolyn Elizabeth Brown (Candi), sister-in- law Nancy Ruth Brown (Lois) and many special lifelong friends who are family such as Pastor Dr. Betty Johnson Planting Seeds Church and caretaker Ruth Wright who we are so very thankful and appreciative for. A very special thanks and appreciation to Lakeland Nursing Home and Rehab for their exceptional care and love given to our beloved mom and entire family over these past months and to Home Care Hospice team for their additional care and compassion.
