So sorry to hear about your dad. He was a great man and contributed so much to Vicksburg when he was our Mayor. You and your family are in our thoughts and prayers.

My dad, Red Stewart, after hearing the obituaries for Uncle John, said Ruth Ann would have been proud.   I agree, thanks for sharing his remarkable service record.  Ruth Ann, John's sister,  always looked up to John.

My Uncle John was such a wonderful and kind man.  He was a real pleasure to know, both as a child when he would bring the family over to Jonesboro to visit, and when we would load up the car and go to Vicksburg to see them, and later as I became an adult.  I hated crossing that narrow Mississippi River bridge:)  There were eight of us kids in the two families so you can imagine how things were during the visit.  Nevertheless, we were always welcomed graciously by Uncle John and Aunt Sara.  We will miss him deeply.  My family's condolences go out to my cousins and their families for their loss. To the Holland Family, I was so saddened to hear of your Dad's death.  He was such a great southern gentleman and friend to me and my family. Sa Sa, I will never forget the kindnesses you have all shown throughout the years. I know you will truly miss him.

From my earliest memories, I remember the name "Johnny Holland" He and my dad were good friends, selling cars and in the naval reserve. As I grew up, I counted him as a friend. He was a good man. The last time I heard from him was when my Mom passed away several years ago. My thoughts and prayers are with all of the Holland family.

Just to let you know...the flags at City Hall here in Vicksburg fly at half staff in his memory.

I just learned of Mr. Holland's passing from our mutual friend, Dick Wilson, in Jackson. I met him in 1982 and remember him as a gentleman ... and a classic example of that.
